The task of this project was on homeostasis. Homeostasis is your body’s ability to keep everything stable. For this project our task was to create and execute an experiment to test how your body maintains homeostasis. My group chose to do the acidity levels in the body. The three subjects (myself and 2 other groupmembers) had to drink entire redbulls and test the level of acidity in our mouths with pH strips from beginning to end. It was clear that there was a significant change in our acidity levels after the 5 minutes.
Concepts
Homeostasis: the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes Kidney: take creatinine out of the blood and put it in the urine to leave the body Urine: a watery, typically yellowish fluid stored in the bladder and discharged through the urethra Liver: filters and processes blood as it circulates through the body Waste System: is the elimination of the waste products of metabolism and to drain the body of used up and broken down components in a liquid and gaseous state Equalibruim: a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced Urinary System:consists of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and the urethra Blood Cells:any of the kinds of cells normally found circulating in the blood Electrolytes: are certain nutrients (or chemicals) present in your body that have many important functions Toxin: an antigenic poison or venom of plant or animal origin, especially one produced by or derived from microorganisms and causing disease when present at low concentration in the body.
Reflection
The test of acidity expirament was quite successful. I learned how important timing is for these types of expiraments to get the most accurate data possible. I could work more on my focusing skills, but I got a lot of work done in this project and I think I have improved compared to the beginning of the year. Overall our expirament was executed smoothly and we didn't run into many problems due to our careful planning.
