For this project, my group and I researched a type of protein (keratin) and the steps of protein synthesis and how they correlated with our protein.
Concepts Protein Synthesis- process where cells generate new proteins DNA- deoxyribonucleic acid; carries genetic information of the cell RNA- carries instructions for DNA and protein synthesis Codon- three nucleotides that together form a unit of genetic code on DNA or RNA Central Dogma- DNA encodes RNA, RNA encodes protein Nucleus- contains genetic material in a cell Transcription- first step in protein synthesis; DNA encodes RNA Translation- second step of protein synthesis; RNA encodes protein Folding- third step of protein synthesis
Reflection
This project was not one of my favorites honestly. It was quite confusing and not explained thoroughly which made it a difficult task from the beginning. Because of this, I had to improvise a lot and figure things out for myself. This actually turned out to be a more positive thing because it teaches leadership and independence skills.
